Past Champion's Provisional |

Tony Stewart isn't my driver, but as a Nascar fan I am disappointed that he didn't make the chase. So I have a question: Should Nascar provide a "Past Champion's Provisional" so that the reigning Nascar Nextel Cup Champion is guaranteed an opportunity to defend? Would this mean that some years we could have eleven chasers instead of ten? For example, if the defending champ doesn't race his way into the Chase we could have an eleventh chaser: the defending champion. I know this could cause a lot of problems with writing the volume of rules that would have to go along with it and some would say this would alter the competition by allowing the defending champion to maybe "take it easy" (altho I don't think it's in anyone's nature who has won the Nextel Cup to take it easy), and what do we do with the eleventh place driver at the end of twenty-six races. There are provisionals for making the race (to protect the fans from going to a race without the superstars of Nascar), so why not the chase? What do you think?

Pretty soon we might as well just go over and join IRL or SCCA and have a big joint venture auto racing love fest!! Once the passion for winning (NOT wrecking) and making your car just a little better than someone else out on the track thru hard work (NOT cheating) and having the best team of guys that stands behind you is removed from our sport, what's left? The sanctioning body is supposed to make the sport fair and safe. Does this include removing competition from the track? If you're better than the guy in front of you do you just ride behind him to the finish because it's not nice to pass? I say it's time to get back to racing. Why is it a problem now for two drivers to exchange angry words after a race to clear the air? The drivers are big boys, let them work it out. I don't advocate using a race car as a lethal weapon, but what set our sport apart was the extreme passion to win, remembering that second place is just the first loser, and if you are the guy who can get it done, you get to go across the start/finish line first. Nascar's continued mother hen approach will eventually remove competition from the track. Don't even get me started on the "Car of Tomorrow"!!!!

What's up with those Buschwackers? |

The poor Busch series drivers haven't won a race yet this year and Kevin Harvick is leading the points. Isn't the Busch series where you spend some time learning about stock car racing and race tracks so you can move up into the elite Cup ranks? It seems like now the Cup drivers are using it as a replacement for the testing time they lost on most of the tracks this year. And let's face it that does give them an edge in the Cup cars. An expensive proposition, but one that seems to work for them. Used to be the Cup drivers would once in a while race a Busch race, and then it was something for us to watch. I'd like to see the Busch series given back to the Busch drivers.

OK Race Fans, I have a question |
|

What is up with NASCAR sanctioning drivers for a little push and shove after the race? I'm not talking about pushing and shoving with cars but pushing and shoving each other standing in the pits. No harm, no foul in my opinion. Those of us who have been following the sport for a long time remember lots of tempers flaring, angry words, and fists flying. Did this hurt our feelings? NO. Did it make us want to go out and be violent? NO. It was just another indication of the passion that our drivers have for the sport, the determination to be a winner; not backing down but instead giving it all you've got and then some. We admired our drivers for standing their ground, we boo'ed them for playing dirty, we forgave them for losing a race because they stopped and got out of the car to wail on each other. They've never gone farther than just blowing off a little steam. Back off NASCAR and leave the drivers alone!! -Carol
